Our Initiatives

Our free annual health screening acts as a ‘one-stop’ service, where participants enjoy a comprehensive health screening at no cost. Participants are screened for various conditions, and those identified to be at higher risk of certain conditions are referred to various healthcare organisations for follow-up. We offer an extensive range of screening modalities including women’s cancer education, mental health, geriatrics frailty screening, dental consult, and social services. These screening modalities are based on our 5 main areas of focus: Cardiovascular Health, Colorectal & Women’s Health, Geriatric Health, Social Service, and Lifestyle. Our dedicated Health Exhibition booth covers topics including ageing, mental health, cancer, metabolic diseases, caregiver burnout, and information on various government schemes available to provide financial assistance to those in need.

PHS ensures that participants from our screening are linked up and reintegrated back to local healthcare institutions. Participants are contacted by our student volunteers via phone calls to encourage participants to follow-up with a primary care provider. For participants who were reluctant to see a doctor, our volunteers helped to elucidate the reason and encourage them accordingly, empowering participants to take the first step. Through this initiative, our participants are supported through the next steps of their medical journey.

The Young Health Ambassadors’ Programme (YHAP) aims to engage students from various Junior Colleges and Polytechnics, empowering these youths to become ambassadors of good health on the community level. Participants are able to learn about common health conditions that affect Singaporeans from esteemed guest speakers and faculty members. As of YHAP 2023, some topics discussed include metabolic syndrome, cancer, healthy living and mental health. Afterwards, participants were tasked with showcasing their learnt knowledge through posters and videos which they then presented to a panel of judges. Winning groups earned a chance to present their posters and videos to the public at the Health Carnival under PHS’ annual health screening.

In 2024, PHS introduced our newest event, the University Health Fair (UHF). UHF 2024 was held in the Medicine+Science library in NUS from 22nd to 26th January. UHF stemmed from a crucial problem: that there has been a lack of efforts aimed at promoting health amongst University Students. Hence, the objective of UHF was clear - to raise awareness on health issues germane to University Students today. A myriad of organisations were invited to come down to set up booths for the fair. Organisations like Alcoholics Anonymous (helping individuals recover from alcoholism) and WeCare (solving addiction related problems) promoted key health issues we often see in young adults today.
